BASICS: ROBOCOYPING
semester project / WS 2014/15

[URIS id=400]

The main issue of this course is getting a basic knowledge of design, a design process and of course model building skills. With the help of three short-term projects students are challenged to solve different tasks. A toy-robot acts as a study object:

GLASS: VISIBLE, INVISIBLE, MYSTERIOUS, ORDINARY!
semester project / SS2013

[URIS id=366]

With the means of presentations, talks and experiments students got to know the wide sprectrum of the material glass, supplemented with a high number of excursions to different types of glass fabrications. Thus, students could experience and internalise the different fabrication techniques. In a second step they were asked to understand the production process as an inspirational moment to design an object that forms out of the interpretaion or manipulation of the technique. The prototyping was realized in cooperation with the glass factory Harzkristall in Derenburg as well as with the glass laboratory workshop of the Technical University of Berlin.

WOOD: LIGHTWEIGHT AND JOINTS
semester project / WS 2013/14

[URIS id=392]

Working with traditional timber joints formed the main issue of this course. Students were asked to design an object made of wood. The appearance was supposed to be as light as possible (which could be interpreted in a physical and optical way).

Besides the conceptual examination of the topic, basic knowledge of light weight construction and joining were taught by presentations and talks. The construction of a prototype was obligatory.
